Dear Parents

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you on behalf of the children, parents, staff and governors to the William Gilbert Primary School and Nursery website. I hope you will find it engaging, interesting and informative.

William Gilbert is proud to be a Church of England Primary School and part of the Derby Diocese Multi Academy Trust.  There are 243 pupils in school, aged between 4 and 11, plus a 52 place Nursery.  The normal catchment area is the Ecclesiastical area which covers mainly the village of Duffield.  The school is very popular and usually oversubscribed.  Although places from within the catchment area are in demand, pupils may be admitted from outside the area if a place is available.

Our vision for excellence at William Gilbert Primary School is a safe and healthy learning environment where everyone is happy, excited, challenged and inspired to be a lifelong learner.  We aim to do this within the context of a warm, welcoming, Christian ethos where our children further develop strong moral values.

Through our creative curriculum, our wide range of sporting and extracurricular activities, our outstanding music and performing arts provision, we are confident that every child who joins our community will have the opportunity to flourish and grow socially, academically and personally.
