CHURCH INSPECTION
(NATIONAL SOCIETY STATUTORY INSPECTION OF ANGLICAN SCHOOLS REPORT)
On Tuesday April 17th 2018, our school was inspected under the SIAMS framework (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools).
The principal objective of such an inspection is to evaluate the distinctiveness and effectiveness of the school as a Church school and the impact of the Christian character and ethos of the school on the development and learning of the children.
The inspector spent a full day observing all aspects of school life with an emphasis on religious education, collective worship, the teaching of literacy, numeracy and science and the Christian distinctiveness of the school as a whole.
She spent time talking to the Headteacher (at the time), Mrs Whyld, the RE and Collective Worship subject leader, Mrs Owen, all class teachers, representatives of the parent body, governors and, of course, the children themselves. The pupils all took part in collective worship and conducted acts of worship in their individual classrooms as well as displaying their learning in all of the core subjects.
WHAT DID THE INSPECTOR SAY?

“An exemplary Christian distinctiveness, reflected in all areas of the school, which is firmly rooted in the values of faith, hope and love”.
“Pupils are developing into highly confident, very well behaved and well-rounded individuals in the knowledge that they are loved by God”.
“High pupil attainment is developed and encouraged due to all pupils being treated as individuals with God given talents”.
“All staff and other adults are providing exemplary role models for the Christian values which are so strongly evidenced throughout the school”.
“A culture of praise, reward and being listened to is having a very positive impact on both pupils and staff”.
“The Headteacher is an inspiration to the whole school community in her unfailing drive and commitment to the school as an academic institution which has its Christian distinctiveness firmly at its heart”.
”William Gilbert Endowed School is an exemplary church school owing to its inspirational leadership, staff and governors, supported by the local church and diocese”.
Since our inspection everyone at William Gilbert is working hard to maintain the identified strengths whilst seeking to continually improve and embrace change.
